The Society's mission is to promote the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds. The Society furthers serious consideration of knowledge about the assignment of appropriate functions for humans and machines, whether people serve as operators, maintainers, or users in the system. And, it advocates systematic use of such knowledge to achieve compatibility in the design of interactive systems of people, machines, and environments to ensure their effectiveness, safety, and ease of performance. The Society was founded in 1957. It has 23 technical groups and numerous local and student chapters. See our history page for a discussion of the Society's growth and development.

ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 120,000 members in over 150 countries worldwide.

AEA is a nonprofit association with members in virtually every high-tech center and industry in the United States. Its members are from all engineering disciplines including aerospace, chemical, civil, computer, electrical and electronics, industrial, IT, mechanical, and software to list a few.

NSPE keeps its members in touch with the latest in their field through respected publications and information resources, opportunities for mentoring and continuing education, and through a national conference and/or local meetings, where members can meet and share ideas with colleagues.

ASCE is a professional body founded in 1852 to represent members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. It is the oldest national engineering society in the United States. ASCE's vision is to have engineers positioned as global leaders who strive toward building a better quality of life.

SAE International is a global body of scientists, engineers, and practitioners that advances self-propelled vehicle and system knowledge in a neutral forum for the benefit of society.
