There are many different formats (.pdf, .epub, .azw, etc.) for which ebooks are produced. They vary by vendor, and some are proprietary while others are standardized across platforms. Wikipedia has gathered data on available formats.

Digital Libraries

The following digital libraries offer hundreds of thousands of books online, for free! Mostly they are books whose copyright has expired and are now in the public domain.
