MLA Citation, 8th ed.: Websites and Webpages

Citing a Whole Website

MLA 7th Edition

Basic Format:

Author, First Name. "Title."  Title of Website. Publisher or Sponsor, Date of Publication. Format. Date Accessed.

Example:

Shakespeare, William. "Hamlet."  The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. The Tech MIT, 1993. Web. 21 Oct. 2016.


MLA 8th Edition

Basic Format:

Author, First Name. "Title."  Title of Website. Publisher or Sponsor, Date of Publication. Url.

Example:

Shakespeare, William. "Hamlet."  The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. The Tech MIT, 1993. http://shakespeare.mit.edu/hamlet/index.html.

If the site does not have a publication or last updated date, include date of access at the end.

Citing a Webpage

If citing one page from a website you should include all of the information for a website (above) and also include the name of the individual page after the authors/creators and before the name of the website. Enclose the name of the page in quotation marks.

Example:

Mintz, Steven, et.al. “Virtual Exhibits.” Digital History: Using Technology to Enhance Teaching and Research. University of Houston, n.d. Web. 18 January 2010.
